New ROADS to an Intelligent World

At the 15th Huawei Global Analyst Summit (HAS), David Wang, Huawei Executive Director of the Board and President of Products & Solutions, unveiled the company’s new three-layer innovation philosophy: product innovation, system architecture innovation, and business model innovation. The company’s aim is to build an All Connected, All Cloud, and All Intelligent road to the intelligent world.

This year, Huawei launched its new corporate vision: Bring digital to every person, home and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world. In the intelligent world, all things can sense, all things are connected, and all things are intelligent. On this All Connected, All Cloud, All Intelligent journey, many new ICT technologies will be needed, as well as an ecosystem of shared success and prosperity. The road to the intelligent world will be built not only on product innovation, but also on innovation in system architecture and business models.

Beyond today’s connections with 5G and ultra-broadband

Huawei’s business is founded on connectivity. To go beyond today’s connections, 5G and ultra-broadband will be the core supporting technologies for a fully connected, intelligent world. 5G is not just for individual users, but more for enterprise users. It is not merely a mobile technology, but a key part of industry solutions. The large-scale commercial use of NB-IoT is laying the foundation for the early commercial rollout of 5G. NB-IoT has been extensively deployed and widely accepted in China. In other countries, NB-IoT is also being applied.

As cloud, video, IoT, 5G, and other services gain traction, there will be a sharp rise in data traffic. Ultra-broadband is delivering greater benefits, and Huawei is one of the first vendors to deliver 400G routers. The company is developing its own chipsets and algorithms to launch the first end-to-end 400G ultra-broadband network, featuring ultra-large capacity, ultra-long distance, and ultra-low latency. This will help prepare telecom networks for the evolution from 100G to 400G.

Huawei Cloud as the “fertile soil”, nurturing new ICT solutions that integrate devices, networks, and the cloud, and taking All Cloud to new depths

Huawei announced its All Cloud strategy in 2016 and entered the public cloud market in 2017. Its aim is to cloudify telecom networks and deliver a ROADS (real-time, on-demand, all online, DIY, social) experience. This will enable enterprises to use technologies like cloud computing, SDN, and big data to go digital and become more agile and intelligent.

Huawei’s All Cloud concept means leveraging the power of cloud to deliver solutions that integrate devices, networks, and the cloud, in order to better adapt to industry needs. With Huawei Cloud as the platform and foundation, Huawei opens up its 30 years of digitization experience and ICT capabilities to customers. It is also providing private line, digital campus, enterprise communications, and IoT solutions in the form of cloud services. This helps simplify the process of deploying networks and offering services, as well as reducing customers’ service costs. It is one of the unique strengths of Huawei Cloud.

By using the Huawei Cloud and clouds of its partners, Huawei has helped Groupe PSA create a connected car platform for global mobility services, including car rental, fleet management, and private car sharing. Huawei does not just provide “boxes”; the company delivered an end-to-end solution integrated across devices, networks, and the cloud, including chips, networks, and industry-specific services.

Safe city solutions like video surveillance have been deployed in many cities. However, video data is often fragmented and not shared between cities or government agencies. Huawei’s Safe City solution offers software-defined cameras and ultra-broadband private networks. It incorporates both distributed cloud systems and a central cloud platform, which means it can consolidate video feeds onto a single cloud to form a unified data pool. The added value of this solution is enormous: It makes safety predictable.

Full-stack AI architecture: intelligence across devices, networks, and the cloud

Huawei applies AI in devices, networks, and the cloud to develop more competitive full-stack solutions. This full-stack AI architecture incorporates chips, algorithms, products, networks, cloud services, and O&M. Huawei has launched a series of products and solutions based on this architecture, including software-defined cameras, SoftCOM AI, and Huawei Cloud EI.

On the network side, Huawei use SoftCOM AI to update it’s products and solutions. SoftCOM AI can enable automatic service deployment and provisioning, self-optimizing and self-healing of the network. The ultimate goal is network autonomy, or self-evolution, which will help telecom operators achieve a leap forward in terms of resource utilization, O&M efficiency, and energy efficiency.

On the device side, Huawei is applying AI, for example, in its software-defined cameras to improve the camera performance. The image processing in complex environments is 25 times more powerful, with over 85% accuracy in feature extraction, even in low-light environments. With the Kirin 970, a mobile phone chipset with an embedded neural processing unit (NPU), mobile phones can know their users better, with an improved capacity to see, hear, and feel. This has significantly improved user experience like photography taking and voice processing.

In the intelligent world of the future, disruption and transformation will become the norm. There will be opportunities everywhere, but they will be accompanied by greater uncertainties in industry, business, and technology. To address these uncertainties, Huawei will work with as many partners as possible to lead industry development.

All Connected, All Cloud, and All Intelligent is the only road to the intelligent world. To make that happen, Huawei is innovating in products, system architecture, and business models, reshaping its products and solutions with cloud + AI, and nurturing new ICT solutions on the Huawei Cloud. Together with its partners, Huawei is working to address the real challenges that individuals, homes, and organizations face during their digital transformation, and help all of its customers solve problems and achieve business success.
